Introduction to the á Case for butter â The material is a spruce.(hokkaido Pine )
The butter case has been made for 23 years.
This case is made out of a tree that has been grown for 100~200 years in the harsh and heavy snow country
of the Northern Japan, Hokkaido.
It is made of a solid wood that has been treated. Its grain is beautiful and will, as you use it for a couple of
years, turn into a warm caramel tone.
This wood is so strong that it is also used to make musical instruments like pianos.
The refined grain of it and its warm colours are what makes the difference!

About the birch(Kaba Sakura) material

This wood grows in the Mainland north central part of Japan , and also in the wild environment of Hokkaido.
It is 30m height and about 1m in diameter. It outside colour is from bright red to brown colour with inside
rings of a light red and white colour. But the red and thick Makaba tree has been difficult to get in recent
years. Its grain is very fine, and the shape of each new ring that grows every year is very homogeneous. The
nods, so called the á skin eyes â, have an exact, elegant wind combination.
The wood is processed to a medium stage, giving its surface an excellent finish. Kaba Sakura uses this wood
for furniture , flooring, apparatus, fixture lumber, etc. Especially the plywood material is very light. Butter
slowly impregnates the case for butter, giving its grain a deep and rich red colour. The case displayed here is
made of white birch, Dake Kamba and Mizume wood. The cover is made or Kaba Sakura, commonly named
in the industry á Cherry wood â.

The case for butter: notice before use
This case for butter is made of the cherry wood tree or spruce(Hokkaido pine) and that endures many
hardships while growing in the north of Japan.
It is coated on its outside with the bees wax.
Before using your case, please wipe the inside with a thin layer of oil (salad oil, olive oilc). Then the butter
will impregnates it little by little and give it, after a couple of years, the colour of á Ame â (caramel candies),
as we say in Japanese.
Remove the butter from its wrapping paper and place it directly into the case. The butter will absorbs the
smell of the fridge.
We advise you to put the case in a plastic bag before storing it in the fridge. You can wash it in hot water, as
other dishes. Just be careful to keep only fresh butter in it!
